Appearance & Characteristics The Grammostola pulchra, or Brazilian Black, is the epitome of elegance in the tarantula hobby. This subadult pair has transitioned from their juvenile grey tones into a stunning, deep jet-black coloration with a velvety texture. Known for their heavy-bodied build, they are a slow-growing but incredibly hardy species. Females can live for over 20 years, making this pair a long-term centerpiece for any collection and a fantastic start for a future breeding project.

Temperament & Venom This species is legendary for being extremely docile and calm. It is very rare for G. pulchra to show defensive behavior or flick urticating hairs. They move in a slow and predictable manner, making them easy to manage even for those new to keeping larger invertebrates. Their venom is very mild, and their placid nature makes them one of the safest and most reliable species for hobbyists of all levels.

Husbandry Native to Brazil and Uruguay, G. pulchra thrives in a terrestrial setup with moderate humidity (60-70%). They prefer comfortable temperatures between 24-26°C. A deep layer of substrate is recommended, as they enjoy occasional burrowing and "bulldozing" their environment. As a robust species, they are very forgiving. A hide and a water dish are essential for their well-being. This pair is well-established and ready for their permanent enclosures.
