This 6.5cm (legspan) female Ceratogyrus darlingi is a stunning subadult specimen. It features a unique, backward-slanting horn and beautiful ashy-grey tones.
Ceratogyrus darlingi, also known as the East African Horned Baboon, is a staple in the collection of any Old World tarantula enthusiast. It is famous for the distinct horn on its carapace, which curves toward the rear. This subadult female already displays the sophisticated blend of greys and browns that make this species so visually appealing.
Temperament and Venom: This species is fast, agile, and defensive. Lacking urticating hairs, it relies on its potent venom and speed. While it generally prefers to stay in its retreat, a female of this size can show a strong defensive posture. Due to its medically significant venom, it is recommended for intermediate to advanced keepers.
Husbandry: C. darlingi is a terrestrial species that thrives in arid setups. It is a prolific webber, often transforming its enclosure into a network of thick silk tunnels. It does not require very deep substrate but needs a reliable hiding spot like cork bark. Keep the environment mostly dry with excellent ventilation. A small water dish should always be available.
