A compact arboreal species from the Psalmopoeus genus, prized for its unique olive-brown coloration with a metallic sheen and robust build.
The Psalmopoeus reduncus is an elegant arboreal tarantula native to the tropical regions of Costa Rica. Its appearance is defined by a uniform olive-brown coloration that displays a stunning golden or coppery metallic sheen under direct light. Reaching about 13 cm in legspan, it is a compact species compared to its congeners, making it a perfect inhabitant for vertically oriented terrariums where space might be limited.
Temperament and Venom: Like all Psalmopoeus species, the Costa Rican tarantula lacks urticating hairs. It relies entirely on its remarkable speed and agility. Generally shy, it will quickly retreat to its silken retreat when disturbed, but it can stand its ground if cornered. Due to its fast-paced nature, this species is best suited for intermediate keepers who are comfortable with the reflexes of arboreal spiders.
Husbandry requirements: For a 1.5 cm spiderling, a small vertical container with good airflow is essential. As an arboreal species, it thrives when provided with vertical cork bark to build its elaborate silken tunnels. It prefers a humidity level of around 75% and temperatures ranging from 24-27°C. They are active hunters and typically show a very consistent and healthy growth rate.
