Chilobrachys fimbriatus (1cm) – Indian Violet

Chilobrachys fimbriatus is an interesting Old World tarantula species, native to the tropical forests of India. This species is distinguished by its contrasting coloration: a light, beige-cream carapace with a radiant pattern, and deep, velvety dark legs and abdomen. A subtle herringbone pattern is often visible on the abdomen. While some individuals might show a subtle, dark purple sheen after a molt, in most cases, this spider presents deep, dark colors.

Temperament and Venom: As a typical Old World species, C. fimbriatus is exceptionally fast, defensive, and possesses potent venom. It lacks urticating hairs, so it relies on its speed and aggression when threatened. It often takes a defensive posture. Due to these traits, this species is recommended strictly for advanced keepers who are comfortable managing dynamic animals.

Husbandry: In captivity, this species is a master of engineering. It creates incredibly extensive and dense silken tunnel systems that often integrate with the substrate. It requires high humidity and temperatures around 25-28°C. Provide a thick layer of moist substrate (peat, coco fiber) to allow it to fulfill its natural tunneling instincts. Excellent ventilation is essential.
