Cilantica devamatha caused a sensation in the hobby upon its discovery. Originating from the humid regions of Thailand, this species represents a rare lineage of fossorial tarantulas. While previously listed as Thrigmopoeus psychedelicus, recent taxonomic revisions moved it to the Cilantica genus. It is highly sought after for its unique aesthetics – its body is covered in velvety setae that shimmer with neon violet and blue hues under proper lighting.

Temperament & Venom: As an Old World species, Cilantica devamatha lacks urticating hairs. It is a fast and reclusive spider that lives primarily underground. It constructs deep burrows lined with thick silk. It can exhibit defensive behavior if threatened, making it best suited for keepers with experience in handling fast Asian species.

Husbandry: The key to success with this species is providing a tall enclosure with a deep layer of substrate (at least 10-15 cm) to allow for natural burrowing. The substrate (a mix of peat and coco fiber) should be kept consistently moist but not swampy. Stable temperatures around 24-27°C and high humidity levels are essential.
