A stunning dwarf tarantula species from Panama, known for its small size and elegant dark coloration. An excellent choice for keepers looking for unique, space-saving exotic pets.
Ami sp. Panama is a remarkable representative of the dwarf tarantula group. Hailing from the humid regions of Central America, this species remains small throughout its life, typically reaching only 3-4 cm in body length. These 1 cm (legspan) spiderlings exhibit a uniform dark appearance, which matures into a deep, sleek color with subtle pale rings at the leg joints. Unlike some related species, it does not possess abdominal patterns or reddish hairs.
Regarding temperament, Ami sp. Panama is primarily a skittish spider. It tends to be shy and will quickly retreat into its burrow or silk retreat if it detects sudden movements or vibrations. It is not considered aggressive or overly fast, making it a manageable species for those accustomed to smaller spiders. Its venom is mild, and its defensive behavior is minimal.
Husbandry requirements focus on maintaining a tropical environment. They thrive at temperatures between 24-27°C with humidity levels around 75-80%. As opportunistic burrowers, they need moist substrate to facilitate their natural tunneling behavior. For a 1 cm specimen, small rearing containers are recommended to ensure they can easily find their prey, such as fruit flies or small pinhead crickets.
