Brachypelma auratum (1cm) - Mexican Flame Knee

The Brachypelma auratum, commonly known as the Mexican Flame Knee, is a true gem of the North American arachnofauna. It is distinguished by its vivid orange-red rectangular markings on the patella, which look like flickering flames against its jet-black legs. As these spiderlings grow and molt, their colors will become increasingly vibrant. Known for their incredible longevity, females can live for over 20 years, making them a long-term companion for any keeper.

Temperament & Venom This species is widely praised for its docile nature. They are typically slow-moving and very predictable. When threatened, they are more likely to retreat to their burrow or flick urticating hairs than to show aggression. Their venom is mild and considered medically insignificant to humans, making them one of the safest species for beginners and seasoned hobbyists alike.

Husbandry Native to the arid regions of Mexico, B. auratum thrives in a terrestrial setup with moderate to low humidity. A substrate of dry coconut fiber or a soil mix is ideal. They prefer temperatures between 25-28°C. As they grow, providing a hide and a shallow water dish is essential. They are hardy and adaptable, making them very easy to care for in a home environment.
