The Haplocosmia himalayana, commonly known as the Himalayan Earth Tiger, is a prized species for collectors of Asian tarantulas. Originating from the foothills of the Himalayas, this species is adapted to slightly cooler and more humid environments than many of its tropical counterparts.

Appearance & Characteristics: This is a medium-sized tarantula that displays a sophisticated aesthetic. The main body and abdomen are covered in velvety, dark brown to black hairs. Its most striking feature is the distinctive light-colored (beige or grey) banding on the legs, particularly on the patella (knees) and femora. Unlike some other "Earth Tiger" species, this one features a solid-colored abdomen without a tiger-like pattern, giving it a very clean and professional look.

Temperament & Venom: Being an Old World species, the Himalayan Earth Tiger lacks urticating hairs. It relies on speed and a potent venom for defense. While it is generally skittish and prefers to retreat into its silk-lined burrow, it can become defensive if cornered. These spiders are prolific webbers, often transforming their enclosure into a complex labyrinth of tunnels and silk sheets.

Husbandry: As a fossorial species, they require an enclosure with a deep layer of moist substrate (a mix of peat moss and coco fiber). It is crucial to provide moderate temperatures, ideally between 22-25°C, as this species is sensitive to extreme heat. High humidity (70-80%) is essential, but it must be paired with adequate ventilation to ensure a healthy environment.
