A juvenile female Ami sp. Panama with a 4 cm legspan. This rare dwarf species is perfect for keepers who appreciate subtle aesthetics and the fascinating behavior of New World tarantulas.
The Ami sp. Panama (4 cm legspan) is a growing female of a unique and less common dwarf tarantula species. At this stage, she is already showing her characteristic appearance – a dark, uniformly colored body accented by subtle, pale rings at the leg joints. While it is a smaller species, its sleek, dark look and sturdy build make it a standout addition to any collection of exotic invertebrates.
Regarding temperament, Ami sp. Panama is primarily a skittish spider. It tends to be shy and will quickly retreat to its burrow if it feels threatened or detects sudden vibrations. It is not considered aggressive or overly fast, and its venom is mild. This combination of traits makes it a relatively manageable species for keepers who have moved past the absolute beginner stage and are looking for something rare.
Husbandry requirements include maintaining a tropical environment with temperatures of 24-27°C and high humidity (approx. 75-80%). As opportunistic burrowers, they thrive in enclosures with a generous layer of moist substrate and various hiding spots like cork bark. At this size, the female is an active feeder and can be provided with appropriately sized crickets or small roaches to support her continued growth.
