This offered female of the Aphonopelma crinirufum species is a valued rarity originating from Costa Rica. This tarantula stands out with its exceptionally calm temperament and unique dark coloration in adult specimens. It is a spider that gets closer to its mature, spectacular appearance with each subsequent molt.
Aphonopelma crinirufum is a species that justly enjoys a reputation as one of the most sought-after North American tarantulas (the genus Aphonopelma is widely distributed throughout North and Central America). The offered female is an individual in a growth phase, which will color up more intensely with each stage of its life. While not yet fully mature, the representative photo shows the target look of adult females, where the deep black of the body contrasts with dense, rusty, or reddish hairs, giving the tarantula a velvety yet predatory look.
Regarding temperament, Aphonopelma crinirufum is an remarkably gentle and slow tarantula. It is a species that almost never shows aggression and rarely kicks urticating hairs. Its venom is mild, making it relatively safe, and its calm nature makes it an ideal choice even for those starting their adventure with tarantula keeping, as long as the keeper shows patience (this species grows very slowly).
Husbandry requirements are typical for species from dry and semi-arid areas. These tarantulas prefer a temperature range of 25-28°C. Humidity should be kept relatively low (65-75%), with dry substrate and a water dish provided. As a terrestrial tarantula, it requires an enclosure with a large floor area and a layer of substrate that allows for occasional burrowing. Purchasing a growing female is an excellent investment for hobbyists valuing rare and calm species that are infrequently found in the trade.
